Dr. Harry Harris is a retired United States Navy officer and physician who served as the United States Ambassador to South Korea from 2018 to 2021. He was appointed by former President Donald Trump and confirmed by the Senate on June 28, 2018. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador, Harris served as the commander of United States Pacific Command, the largest military command in the world, from May 2015 to May 2018. He retired from the Navy in 2018 after 39 years of service. Harris is known for his expertise in Asia-Pacific affairs and his efforts to strengthen relationships between the United States and its allies in the region. He is also a native of Japan, which has given him a unique perspective on the region and its culture.
